Irene Adler Headcanon (I appreciate everybody thinks different things and usually I'm flexible with head canons but on this matter it would have to be something really good to change my mind: Her parents died when she was very young, and she was brought up by an Uncle/Other family member that was rarely around. Perhaps Boarding School or at least private school in NYC/London/Paris and mostly left to her own devices and was always stauntly independent. She had a privilege upbringing.

I like this one, and I agree completely with you that she was made an independent person very early on in life. This is a very strong headcanon for me.
